Before the age of Communist rule, FIVE MILLENNIA of legends, arts, and culture prospered in every curve of mainland China, and year in and year out, the NYC-based Shen Yun revives these perennial treasures for everyone to cherish! 2026 is no exception.
Celestial gods walking across the country. Vast steppes swept by hordes of Mongolian nomads. And the wartime heroism of dauntless warriors. Shen Yun’s annual shows center around the many myths and sagas that spanned the nation's regimes, imaginatively portraying their romances and tragedies with aspects from Buddhist and Taoist beliefs to complete each tale.
The forthcoming production will exhibit 20 story sections of ethereal performances in roughly 2 hours. Expertly instructed dancers decked in charmingly decorated garb will flutter through the floor, recounting the show’s tales with 17 or 18 elaborate ethnic dance routines. Additionally, 2 to 3 vocal and instrumental solos will accentuate these phases with soaring harmonies — both original and traditional.
A full-piece orchestral ensemble will play a sweeping score throughout the event, innovatively incorporating Chinese and Western instruments. In terms of stagecraft, Shen Yun utilizes a high-tech virtual background to render animated scenes, pulling guests into the world of ancient Chinese civilizations in a spectacular fashion.
